- FAA Instrument Rating requirements are
specified in Federal Regulations and Instrument Rating Practical Test Standards.
- Part of these requirements are 40 hours
instrument/simulated instrument training. As private pilot you
already have at least 3 hours of instrument training.
- CFR 14 Part 61 specifies that 20 of required
40 hours can be flown in FAA approved simulator that qualifies as Advanced Aviation Training Device
(AATD).

the weather conditions and traffic flow.

errors and enhance training, while the actual aircraft doesn't
have this luxury.
